The Post You Must Read for a Better World
Help Us Help Underrepresented Researchers Through YouTube
This post is a request. A request that will help me and
to promote philosophical research by people from underrepresented countries.People from non-English speaking countries are doing amazing philosophical work, offering insights that help us make the world a better place. But they are often overlooked because of the language and cultural barriers.
Matt and I created the YouTube channel Philosophy Today in 2023 to promote philosophical research from traditionally underrepresented areas.
We are not YouTube professionals, we are philosophers. Nevertheless, we want to go one step further and promote our past and future videos. In 2023, we created more than one video per month from symposia and guest lectures that we organized. Most of the videos are in English, with a small amount in French; we may add videos in Japanese.
Most of the English presentations were given by non-native English speakers. Some of them live in regions of the world where internet connections are unstable, in noisy environments, and with very basic equipment. Thus, the form of the videos may not be the quality you are used to seeing on YouTube.
However, the content is far better than the average YouTube video on philosophy, as all the presentations have been designed by professional researchers.
These videos consist of academic lectures, but are accessible to any normally educated person. The goal is to get people thinking about our world, about important philosophical, social, and environmental issues.
The way you can support us on YouTube is also very simple. Watch our videos, leave a comment, and subscribe to our little non-professional channel. Again, it is very easy, it will cost you nothing, and it will help us more than you can imagine.
That’s it. The best way to help us on YouTube is to make the YouTube algorithm understand that our little channel is more important than it seems.
All the best,
Romaric

So glad I discovered this just now. Our greatest enemy I think is timidity in moving out of our known environments and limitations. We are all planetary citizens. Is it so important to have passports when the world is our home?
