About Me
My name is Romaric Jannel. I am a philosopher by training, temperament, and choice. Since 2016, I have been living and teaching in Japan, where my philosophical journey continues to be nurtured through dialogue with Eastern philosophy and cultures.
Before philosophy fully claimed me, I started out in the civil service. However, the pull of fundamental questions about logic, language, and the nature of reality proved stronger. I went on to study philosophy, logic, and Buddhist philology in France and Japan. I earned my Ph.D. in philosophy in 2020.
I am currently affiliated with the Collège International de Philosophie in Paris and Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto. In 2023, I published my first book in French Yamauchi Tokuryū (1890-1982). Western Philosophy and Buddhist Thought, an inquiry into a thinker who stood at the crossroads of traditions, and whose work continues to inspire my own.

Philosophy and Beyond is a space for thinking—across cultures, outside institutions, and beyond disciplinary walls.
Here, I explore philosophical questions, more often than not at the intersection of Eastern and Western thought. My goal is to share, not to simplify, but to invite others into the conversation.
