Interesting interview. AI is a sign of intellectual poverty. Writing, and playing with language, is the ultimate token of human achievement. Why let silicon chips have all the fun?
I don’t fear AI, instead I choose to use it and there are many instances where oftentimes interactions with large language models can seem like cognition, intuition and intelligence are happening. It is not, all the developers and AI experts tell us this is an illusion, and yes, it is, but my question is if it has utility, does it really matter that it’s an illusion of human like interaction?
Look at it this way, movies are an illusion too, they show us twenty-four still frames per second. Persistence of vision ensures that our brains can stitch those separate frames together, giving us the illusion of movement. We are fully aware it is an illusion, yet people often choose to suspend their disbelief and can become emotionally moved by movies because of the nature of their content. We generally don’t care that what we are really looking at is simply a series of still photographs presented to us in rapid succession.
This was a fascinating discussion Romaric, I really liked both perspectives and how Socratic the dialogue was and how you both delved into topics with such intellect and understanding (I lack any and all understanding in the field of tech, ai and Social Media).
I really liked also how you tackled this topic and the nature of the 'search for quality'. With my stories I try to push forward quality, and with my essays I try to stress its importance yet I never worded it quite as well as you did nor had so deep a discussion of it.
I must admit that this might be one of the most important articles I've read in some time. Merci beaucoup!
Anytime, your article really made me think and realize just how much a lot of our use of tech and such is a search for meaning, and what does it mean to search for meaning. For that alone I owe you an incomparable debt.

I couldn't agree more...
I use AI to bounce ideas off of, asking questions like; “Review this scene and tell me if it makes sense.” “How is the pacing in this story and what are some things I can do to improve it?” I also use AI as a kind of “reality simulator”, using a custom trained GPT which I wrote about here: https://open.substack.com/pub/kennetheharrell/p/using-ai-as-a-reality-simulator?r=mwvnq&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
For Writers, AI can also be leveraged as a powerful visualization tool or what I call “Using AI Art as Gumbo Starter for the Imagination” for more on that you can read more about it here: https://open.substack.com/pub/kennetheharrell/p/using-ai-art-as-gumbo-starter-for?r=mwvnq&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

I learned from you when you shared specific questions to ask AI
Using a custom GPT helps if you choose to try the “reality simulator” prompt.

You're welcome!
I like this idea, Kenneth.
