Studied comparative governments in college, France was one of the five that were studied. Macron cannot reasonably name a candidate from his party, but between his and the National Rally, there are some other parties, small, but there, that he could choose from. That would keep the left out, the party would have to work with the RN and Macron's party, Ensemble, plus the chosen party for the the Prime Minister, it should make for an interesting omelet.

I agree with you. Politically speaking, it would be very difficult to appoint someone from the president's party as prime minister. However, we have an old saying that says "Impossible is not French" (considered as words of Napoleon I). Most French people seem to have lost this spirit, at least for part of its meaning, but clearly not President Macron. A surprise here is not completely out of the question. But of course, as you suggest, a somehow right-wing government is much more likely, and that is what I think will emerge from this unusual situation.
